Khaolak is located about 50 kilometres north of Koh Phuket Island on the mainland in Phang Nga province. Most of its sandy beaches stretch from the Khao Luk-Lamru National Park in the South for about 20 kilometres northwards, starting with Sunset Beach, Nang Thong Beach, Bang Niang Beach, Khuk Khak Beach, Pakweep Beach and Bangsak Beach in the very North. A single beach, namely Khao Lac Beach is located south of and adjacent to Khaolak Lamru National Park. Nangthong
Beach extends for more than 2.5 kilometres from Sunset Beach in the South
to the mouth of Bangniang River in the North. The sandy Nang Thong Beach is separated
into several sections by rocky bands stretching out into the Andaman Sea. The
southern part of Nangtong Beach is the centre of Khaolak, where the first bungalows
were built in the late Eighties. Today, it is the most developed area of Khaolak
offering a wide choice of restaurants, travel offices, dive shops, tailors and
film developing. Most of these enterprises are located along Highway No 4, that
is 200-600 metres away from the coast and can be reached easily by walking.
